Chelsea gallery Friedman Benda will open its eighth season with the Ettore Sottsass 1955 to 1969 exhibit next month, the fourth part of a series that explores the work of Italian designer-architect Sottssass. The exhibit, which was ten years in the making, will focus on the early stages of the Italian icon's career, displaying ceramics, furniture and lighting, as well as vintage photos that have not yet been seen in the U.S.
The exhibit will also mark the first show in the gallery’s newly reimagined exhibition space in Chelsea. Additional highlights of the show include the first U.S. unveiling of a bookshelf made specially for a director of Olivetti, front-slatted rosewood cabinets, one in white and another in red, and examples of mirrors and lighting designed for Arredoluce.
