During Dwell on Design in Los Angeles last month, the AIA Los Angeles chapter announced the winners of the 10th annual Restaurant Design Awards (RDA) in both the People’s Choice and Jury categories.
The RDA jury—Architect Barbara Bestor, AIA; LA Times Food Critic Jonathan Gold and Restaurateurs, Quinn and Karen Hatfield—came to the AIA|LA offices in May to decide the Jury Award Winners and to choose the finalists for the People’s Choice Awards voting.
After a month of People’s Choice voting and more than 2,100 votes from across the country, the winners were tallied up and ready to be honored at the awards ceremony.
This year’s winners are as follows:
Jury Awards:
Restaurants: Bestia (Los Angeles) designed by Studio Unltd; Hinoki & The Bird (Los Angeles) designed by Studio Unltd; Superba Food + Bread (Venice, CA) designed by Design, Bitches
Café/Bar: Bo Nauge (West Hollywood) designed by J. Marx Atelier and BASE Architecture, Planning and Engineering
Lounge/Nightclub: Upstairs @ Ace Hotel (Los Angeles) designed by GREC Architects, LLC; Killefer Flammang Architects; and Commune Design. (Upstairs @ Ace Hotel also one for the People’s Choice Award in the same category)
People’s Choice Awards:
Restaurant: Gracias Madre (West Hollywood) designed by Wendy Haworth Design and VMC Architecture
Café/Bar: Café Saul. E Mendez (Guatemala City, Guatemala) designed by Taller KEN
