There’s a reason you became a designer, and it probably didn’t have anything to do with lawyers and contracts. You're the expert in color, fabric, floor plans, and furniture schemes, not intellectual property and arbitration provisions. Have you ever had a client refuse to pay a bill, not give you credit for your work, or use your design scheme without hiring you? Thankfully, David Adler, a Chicago-based lawyer who understands the ins and outs of the design industry, will be on hand to share best practices to protect your business.

In this class, Chicago-based attorney David Adler will provide you with a basic client contract that you can use and customize. He will break it down for you section by section, so that you understand what it is, why it is important, how it can and should protect you and what information should be outlined in it.

In this class, you will learn:

  • What a client contract is and why it is important
  • What the key terms of a contract are, the reasons as to why they are there and when they should be changed
  • When and how a contract is formed
  • What you can do if your client is not living up to his/her side of the deal

By the end of class, you will have:

  • A basic understanding of key contract terms
  • A basic client agreement that you can use or customize
