The Guest of Honor at this week's Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair is British designer Paul Smith, who has created a lounge filled with objects that represent his sources of inspiration. The lounge contains four main design elements: first, photos of flowers to represent nature; second, covers in Domus magazine to pay homage to Giò Ponti; third, images from Paul Smith’s boutiques; and fourth, a collection of things that a mysterious admirer sent Paul Smith over the years.

“When it comes to the lounge at Stockholm Furniture Fair, I don’t want to just reflect a minimalistic elegance; we’ve seen that many times before. I want to spread an interesting, optimistic atmosphere that inspires people and shows something other than pure elegance,” said Sir Paul Smith.

Paul Smith is best known as a fashion designer, but he has also designed furniture and upholstery textiles. In 2002, he collaborated with Cappellini to create the Mondo collection and in 2003 he launched ‘Bespoke’ an upholstery textile for Maharam. He also designs a collection of rugs for The Rug Company. His boutiques have always been an important aspect of his work; they reflect his character and design, an unmistakable Britishness augmented by the unexpected.

Previous Stockholm Furniture Fair Guests of Honor include Patricia Urquiola, Spain; the brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, France; Naoto Fukasawa, Japan; Konstantin Grcic, Germany; Giulio Cappellini, Italy, and most recently, Ineke Hans, the Netherlands.

Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair will take place on February 9 -13, 2010. For further information, visit www.stockholmfurniturefair.com and www.northernlightfair.com.
