Scores of art & antiques shows set to open in England

Before and after the Olympics, London and its outskirts will host top-notch antiques shows for all tastes. Here's what's up ahead: 

On view through May 19, The London Silver Vaults presents The Carrying the Flame: Silver Candlesticks of the Past Three Centuries. Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1QS. Browse all varieties of candleholders and accessories, including table lamps, Vesta cases and cigar lighters. 

April 24-29: Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair. Battersea Park, London SW11 4NJ. Sculptor and dealer Robert Barley creates a 12 foot-tall floral statue of the Queen in the foyer, surrounded by a garden filled with unusual objects and statues from around the Commonwealth and Empire. 140 exhibitors from the UK and Europe take part.

May 6-31: Windsors at West Wycombe: The Definitive Exhibition of 18th Century Windsor Chairs. West Wycombe Park (National Trust), Buckinghamshire. A definitive collection of 35 of the best known examples drawn from private and public collections. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for lovers of this enduring furniture design. 

May 28-September 29: The London Silver Vaults presents Post-War Winners: 60 Years of Modern British Silversmiths. The London Silver Vaults, the home of silver shopping. Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1QS. Selling exhibition featuring vintage work by Stuart DevlinGerald Benney and other leading designer silversmiths of the modern Elizabethan Age. Some makers are represented in the Queen’s collection. Includes designs by leading retailers such as Asprey, Garrard and Mappin & Webb. 

June 28-July 4: From Bugatti to bronzes, Cartier to Cognac, Picasso to pink diamonds, Masterpiece London offers a forum for distinctive design and aesthetic excellence. Held on the South Grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, Masterpiece London will bring together a wide range of top exhibitors for 2012.

September 18– 22: Tribal Perspectives. Cork Street, Mayfair, London W1. Some of the world’s best tribal art dealers gather to display and sell a wide variety of works from across the five continents, from African masks to South Pacific textiles. 

September 19 – 23: LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair Berkeley Square. Mayfair, London W1.The Association of Art & Antiques Dealers’ prestigious annual event, with 95 member exhibitors. A new marquee and layout brings a completely different look to the fourth year of this glamorous event in the heart of Mayfair.

October 2–7: Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair. Battersea Park, London SW11 4NJ. 140 dealers in traditional and decorative antiques, period accessories and 20th century design offer an inspiring display that attracts leading UK and international decorators, discerning homeowners and young buyers looking for that extra something.

October 6-January 31, 2013: The London Silver Vaults present Seasonal Sparkle: Jewelry, dinnerware and silver gifts. Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1QS. Find wonderful ideas for Christmas dining, gifts, and a wide range of antique and modern jewelry also available at the Vaults.
