Last week Shutterfly.com invited interior designer Michelle Workman as well as entrepreneur Olivia Palermo and DIY expert Brit Morin to each design a 200 sq. ft. living room showcasing metal prints, wood wall art, glass prints, decorative pillows, decals, dishware, table runners, blankets and other items from the site.

“Photos and images have the potential to completely transform a room,” said Workman. “I’m always on the lookout for unique artwork and interesting photos from past and present to add extra depth and communicate the personality of the client.”

Workman created an elegant and sophisticated living space by pairing rich, dark colors with bright reds and pinks for a unique juxtaposition. She added her own flare to the space by mixing traditional furniture with rich patterns, Chinoiserie imagery and faux wallpaper created with Shutterfly’s acrylic prints.

“I love using Shutterfly to come up with new and inventive ways to display these images and help tell the story of my client’s life,” said Workman. “I even had my own ‘Debauched Debutante’ photo shoot just so I could have some fun with photography and experiment with all of the different printing options and mediums.”

Palermo incorporated fashion into the interior design of her space with a muted color palette, gold accents and sleek silhouettes for a contemporary feel; while Morin created a modern living room by pairing solid, neutral mid-century furniture with pops of color, geometric patterns, bright photography and a myriad of textures.

In addition to the rooms decorated by Palermo, Morin and Workman, Shutterfly’s design team created a Bohemian outdoor movie space, a nautical bathroom and a colorful studio apartment decked out for the holidays.  Bloggers Kim Stoegbauer from The Tomkat Studio and Jennifer Hadfield from Tatertots and Jello combined their creative visions to design a shabby chic nursery with a warm and inviting pink and gray color scheme.

The spaces were on display for one day only and were celebrated with an event that invited editors, bloggers and designers to come in a check out them out. The designers were on hand to share their inspiration and give tours, and guests including Martha Stewart and her editorial team mingled in the spaces.
