Lowe's, TOMS present designers challenges for charity

Lowe's selected three of the nation’s top celebrity designers to create the ultimate outdoor room, and will donate $25,000 to each of the designers’ charities, with the winning charity receiving an additional $25,000.

Marcela Valladolid, for Olive Wood Gardens. Previously an editor with Bon Appétit, she is the author of two best-selling cookbooks and the host of her own Food Network show, Mexican Made Easy.

Elaine Griffin, for Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club, a contributing editor for Better Homes and Gardens and author of Design Rules: The Insider's Guide to Becoming Your Own Decorator.

Danny Seo, for Yum-o!, an environmental lifestylist who America turns to for stylish tips, projects and ideas to live a little bit greener each day.

During NeoCon in Chicago (June 11-13), the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and TOMS will host a three-day Style Your Sole event at the Merchandise Mart. TOMS invited members to style 200 pairs of their shoes.

The Community Outreach Event will also include a silent auction featuring exclusively styled shoes by noted members of the design community including: Venus Williams, professional athlete and CEO of V Starr Interiors; Dale Chihuly, renowned glass artist; Susan Szenasy, editor in chief of Metropolis magazine; Michael Murphy and Alan Ricks, founders of MASS Design Group; and Michael S. Smith, founder of Michael S. Smith Inc. and interior designer for the Obama White House.

The vignettes are on view on Lowe’s Facebook page now through Tuesday, June 5.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the event will benefit Samaritan’s Feet, an international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing shoes for communities in need.

Shoe Styling: June 11 and June 12: 10am -12pm and 2pm - 4pm; June 13: 1pm - 3pm. Silent auction closes: June 12 at 4 p.m.
