Designer Nicole Gibbons chatted with EAL about her new gig as official Style Ambassador for the home-goods name—the first role of its kind for Lowe's—and what it means to represent a big-name brand. Gibbons, who has worked with the Lowe's team for several years on other projects, will premiere new products throughout the year.

What was your inspiration for these pieces?
Since it's launching at a time when the weather is transitioning out of summer and into fall, I'm still very much dreaming of relaxing days at the beach, so I incorporated soft aquas to evoke the feeling of an endless summer and accented that with rich navy, ivory and metallics. I love ikat and Greek key motifs, so you'll see these patterns reflected in the collection along with an eclectic mix of Moroccan-inspired patterns and geometrics.

What pieces are included in your collection for Lowe’s?
When it came to accent furniture I chose pieces that are versatile and multifunctional for smaller New York City apartments where having double-duty furniture is especially useful. I love the tufted X bench in the collection. It can be used as extra seating in a living room or at the foot of a bed, or could also look really chic in an entryway situated under a console table.

The bar cart is another versatile piece that I love. It can double as a bar for serving and entertaining, a side table next to your sofa styled with a lamp on top along with books and decorative objects and can even be used at the bedside as well.

What are your roles as style ambassador?
Aside from curating product collections, I'll be appearing in lots of video content and producing other social media–driven content full of decorating tips, styling ideas and inspiration for living with style.I'll also be doing some fun in-store events including a launch event at Lowe's Upper West side on September 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be a big block party where guests can get a free design consult, have a chance to win fun prizes and of course, shop the new store!
