Piers Anthony Weymouth Wedgwood, the fourth Baron Wedgwood, died at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania last week on January 29.

Born in 1954 in Kenya, Lord Wedgwood assumed the family legacy at age 16 when his father, Hugh, the third Baron Wedgwood, died in 1970. Beginning with cleaning the factory’s pottery kilns and learning the production methods, he eventually moved into his role as the brand’s ambassador in a career that would last more than 40 years.

He played a role in the opening of new markets for Wedgwood products in India, China and Russia. He also served on the board of trustees of the Wedgwood Museum.

Lord Wedgwood is survived by his wife, Mary, Lady Wedgwood; their daughter, the Honorable Alexandra Mary Kavanaugh Wedgwood; and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Lord Wedgwood Charity, a non-profit organization he founded in 2001, following a heart attack, whose mission is the placement of automatic external defibrillators in high schools and communities.
