Textile designer, author, and collector Jack Lenor Larsen will hold an exhibition and sale of treasures from his personal collection at Roberto Dutesco’s Wild Horses of Sable Island Gallery in New York March 10-12.
The items have been selected from Larsen's collection at LongHouse, his East Hampton sculpture garden and preserve, including tribal rugs, ethnographic textiles, decorative arts, pottery, modern crafts, basketry and books ranging from $400 to $13,000. All proceeds from the sale will benefit LongHouse public programs, which include docent-led school tours, curriculum and workshops.
The LongHouse estate contains a 13,000 s.f., 18-room house inspired by the Japanese shrine at Ise, and a 16-acre sculpture garden and nature reserve. Through its arboretum, sculpture gardens, and educational programs, the venue brings together art and nature, aesthetics and spirit, with a strong conviction that the arts are central to living wholly and creatively.
Larsen is a scholar, world traveler, and an authority on traditional and contemporary crafts. He is an innovator in fabric design and established the standards for superlative modern textiles. He is one of the four Americans ever to be honored with an exhibition at the Palais du Louvre.
