Since 1998, House Beautiful magazine has been zeroing in on the top young talent in the design industry. The early lists, known as the “Future Hall of Famers,” featured designers such as Victoria Hagen, David Kleinberg, Thomas Pheasant, Thomas O'Brien, Jeffrey Bilhuber, Barbara Barry and Thomas Jayne. Now the list is recognizing 24 emerging designers as the “Next Wave.”

At a luncheon last week at the Hearst Tower, House Beautiful Editor-in-Chief Newell Turner and Chief Revenue Officer Kate Kelly Smith honored 19 of the Next Wave designers, some of whom had travelled from Seattle, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Boston. Bloggers, advertisers and friends of the magazine were also in attendance.

All of the designers have been featured in House Beautiful’s “Next Wave” column over the last two years. They include: Courtney Giles, Timothy Brown, Jill Goldberg, Jon Call, Christos Prevazanos, Austin Varner, Michael Herold, Alison Vanderpool, Ariana Villalta, Blair Harris, Margaret Kirkland, Kate Hackworth, Courtney Hill Fertitta, Kate Coughlin, Ohara Davies-Gaetano, Ryan White, Sam Allen, Patrick Mele, Tyler Dawson, Sean Cowan, Catherine Kwong, Matthew Bees, Andrew Howard and Janie Myers.

"The Next Wave has been a recurring feature in House Beautiful for decades," said Shax Riegler, executive editor of House Beautiful. "Each editor has recast it in a new way, but the goal has always been to spotlight rising talents in the next generation of designers. For the past few years, it has been a full-page feature in every issue focused on one young designer. They've come from all across the country. As the oldest continuously published shelter magazine in America, this interest in and nurturing of a new generation is as much a part of our DNA as reporting on the best in design now."
