Following appearances as a fully functional bar at a series of exclusive events this summer and fall, a luxury tailgating tour will culminate in an auction in December to benefit DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS. Launched this past March at DIFFA’s Dining By Design New York, a “watering hole on wheels” outfitted with Moore and Giles leathers was designed by interior designer Brad Ford with consult from celebrated mixologist Jim Meehan to offer the ultimate in luxury tailgating and showcase the art of high-end entertaining outdoors.

“I grew up in Arkansas and have such fond memories of camping outdoors as well as tailgating at the Razorback football games. Both experiences included a lot of family and friends and were very social. It was always so much fun and it would become more of a happening,” said Ford.  “In designing the Great American Woody, I wanted to revisit those good times, but bring them into the 21st century. No more Styrofoam ice chests or plastic cups, I wanted to bring out the good stuff! This particular Woody is such a novel idea because it combines modern day luxury with the charm of the original tear drop campers built in the 30’s. It’s almost impossible for it not to spark conversation, reminisce about old memories and make new ones, and hopefully bring a smile to the faces of those who get to enjoy it.”

Its unique bells and whistles include a custom pull-out bar with a three compartment sink, pony keg, wine rack and glass storage and back bar that can hold more than 30 bottles of wine or spirits. The rear features an entertainment center with a Sony flatscreen television hidden behind a mirror trimmed in mahogany as well as a Sony Blu-Ray Player, Golden Ear speakers and components by Parasound.

Prior to the December auction, both Ford and Meehan will travel with the Great American Woody to events including Traditional Home’s Barn Bake in Watermill, Pernod Ricard’s Juniperlooza events in Montauk, the Wall Street Journal Pavilion at Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach, Garden and Gun’s Brunch for the Fall Race at Keeneland and LUXE’s Opening Gala for the Maison de Luxe Showhouse at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills.
