Italian housewares brand Alessi is partnering with Delta Airlines to reimagine onboard service in both Delta One and first class. The new design will hit the skies in 2017.

“We understand every aspect and detail of the travel experience matters to our customers,” said Robyn Klein, Delta’s managing director for onboard services. “Working alongside the talented and creative teams at Alessi, a design house that continues to set the standard for innovative and unique design, we’ll bring to the airplane an uncompromising level of elegance and service that builds on Alessi’s renowned design inspiration.”

Some of the highlights of the design include a line of plates, glasses, flatware and other service products. Delta service teams, along with Alessi designers, will design and test the new service in-flight over the coming months. Other onboard design updates include Westin Heavenly Bedding, a Tumi-designed amenity kit and skin products from Malin + Goetz.

“The key to a truly memorable in-flight service and culinary experience starts with the very product the food is served on,” said Paolo Cravedi, managing director of Alessi USA. “We are creating for Delta’s customers a bespoke and inspirational line of plates, glasses, flatware and service products that sets the tone for the delicious and thoughtful approach the airline has taken with their onboard food and beverage offerings.”

“It has been a pleasure working with Delta on this project over the past few months, and we are looking forward to developing the new product line together,” said Matteo Alessi, executive vice president of international sales and development at Alessi. “I admire Delta’s decision to redesign the onboard experience, and I’m proud that Alessi is part of that enhancement.”

The airline also teamed up designer Zac Posen earlier this year, on a uniform collection for flight attendants, service agents and other employees.
