Talking British Design in the U.S. with Tom Faulkner
During What’s New, What’s Next at 200 Lex, the Tom Faulkner showroom hosted a lively evening with a standing-room-only Q&A with Tom Faulkner himeself and Tim Butcher of Fromental, moderated by acclaimed English design journalist Busola Evans. The engaging and wide-ranging conversation delved into the creation of the newly debuted Capricorn, a truly unique wallcovering co-designed by Faulkner and Butcher, who talked about the power of collaboration, pushing the boundaries of British design, and the nuanced differences between the English and U.S. markets.
The event’s 75 guests—including Angela Brown, David Hamilton, Delbert Bruns, Diane Allehaux-Sapnar, Georgie Fenn, Jim Druckman, Minnie Kemp, Miranda Kirwan, Rosemary Hallgarten and Una Malan—spilled out into the hallway as they enjoyed champagne and traditional British appetizers, and admired the new works featured throughout the showroom.
“We were thrilled to celebrate the first anniversary of our New York showroom during What’s New, What’s Next, which is turning into one of our favorite events,” said Faulkner. “It was all the more special to have Tim and Busola join us for this special evening and help us unveil Capricorn in style.”
“Tom’s work has always struck me as a sculptural exploration of geometry and material,” said Butcher. “With Capricorn, bold geometrics are rendered texturally, creating a sense of moving shadows rather than fixed shapes. This textural effect contrasts with the inherent rigidity of Tom’s usual materials.”
