From cotton to wool, nylon to polyester, the wide world of textiles is far more intricately woven than meets the eye. As a designer, it’s important to have a thorough understanding of where the fabrics you source come from and how they are made, so you’re making the most well-informed choices for your client’s style and their home’s functionality. Stephanie Moffitt, design director for Mokum and contributor of Woven, and fifth generation James Dunlop Textiles family-member Annie Moir are two industry experts here to make you a materials master. Packing more than 100 years of textile design knowledge into a two-hour tutorial, the pair will guide you through the world of textiles, unraveling its complexities and defining its many terms and processes.

In this class you will learn:

- How to think about common fibers and yarns, fabric types and characteristics, dyeing techniques and finishing processes.

- What it takes to create a bespoke hand-crafted textile design, from raw fiber to finishing stitch.
- How location (Australia and New Zealand, specifically) and culture influence design direction and intent.

After this class, you will have:

- An encyclopedic glossary on general textiles, drapery, upholstery, accessories and wallcoverings.

- An insider look to a cultural approach to design and how where we live impacts the design process.

Additional Information:

This webinar is conducted through AdobeConnect. All you need to join is reliable internet access and computer speakers with good volume. Instructions on how to join will be sent out the night before and morning of the webinar.
