What’s the inspiration behind the new collection?
Our new collection is inspired by the desire to blur the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces. During the pandemic, people began to redesign their homes to better reflect their personalities, and this extended to outdoor areas as well. We aimed to make exterior spaces more comfortable and inviting, moving away from rigid, function-focused designs. The collection integrates indoor elements such as materials and design into outdoor settings, creating a seamless, livable environment that feels like a natural extension of the home.

What was the starting point for this collection?
Listening to our customers. They wanted decorative, portable lighting that could seamlessly integrate into their current aesthetic and harmonize with existing pieces in their homes. We focused on using finishes that customers of Visual Comfort are familiar with, Black and Matte White, along with hand-rubbed Antique Brass, which is rated for outdoor usage as well. Alabaster and Crystal—materials that have become staples in our current assortment—have also been included throughout. By incorporating these core finishes and materials, we ensured that the elevated level of design that customers enjoy indoors from Visual Comfort can effortlessly extend to their outdoor spaces, creating a cohesive and design-forward environment throughout their home.

How do you feel this collection pushes the brand forward?
This collection represents a significant step forward for our brand, as it challenged us to rethink traditional design and development approaches. To successfully enter this new category, we had to understand some technologies that were previously unfamiliar to us. This pushed our teams to innovate and expand our expertise, ensuring that we could meet the demands of this specific market.

At the same time, we remained committed to upholding the high standards of materials and construction that define our brand. By maintaining our focus on quality while embracing new technologies, we’ve been able to create a collection that not only aligns with our existing decorative and architectural lighting standards, but also sets the stage for future innovation.

One of the stand-out features of this collection is its battery life, which lasts 12 to 14 hours—outperforming many of our competitors’ products. This ensures that our portable lamps are not just beautiful but practical for extended use. Additionally, these pieces are wet-rated for outdoor use, making them versatile and reliable in various environments. Charging is made simple with any standard USB-C charger, one of which is included in the box, adding to the convenience and user-friendly experience our customers value. By integrating these features, we’ve created products that are as functional as they are aesthetically pleasing, further pushing the boundaries of what our brand can achieve.

How does the collection build on or complement your other offerings?
Rather than simply complementing our existing offerings, this collection is an extension to both new and existing customers. By utilizing our core finishes and materials, we’ve created a seamless way to experience Visual Comfort. The collection is designed to integrate effortlessly into various spaces, ensuring that the essence of our brand is felt across different environments in and around the home. This extension allows us to reach a broader audience while maintaining the style and quality our customers expect.

In this collection, we’ve brought some of our classic designs into the battery-operated, portable category. Iconic indoor collections like Mina, known for its sleek form and modern aesthetic, have been reimagined to offer the same innovation and functionality in a small-format portable. Similarly, newer outdoor collections like Nevis—which has quickly become a favorite for its initial introduction into the outdoor-living category and its style—are now part of our battery-operated offerings. This approach not only broadens the versatility of these collections, but also ensures that our customers can enjoy their favorite designs in any space, indoors or outdoors.

This collection features a variety of materials that cater to diverse customer needs while maintaining our brand’s aesthetic integrity and quality. Core finishes like our hand-rubbed Antique Brass and steel are prominent, ensuring that these pieces can be easily integrated into different spaces and applications. The versatility of the materials allows the products to serve multiple functions—whether it’s illuminating an outdoor space or serving as a dynamic piece within the home. This collection of battery-operated portables is perfect for creating a softly lit atmosphere during a movie night or providing the right ambiance for an outdoor dinner at dusk.
