Stockholm Design Week and the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair will descend on the capital city venue, Stockholmsmässan, throughout February 8 to 14, drawing an estimated 40,000 visitors and 700 exhibitors to events, showrooms and exhibitions to celebrate Scandinavian design. Below, a look at what’s new for this year’s shows.

This year’s Guest of Honour, a title awarded yearly to acclaimed international designers or studios, is the British design studio Barber & Osgerby. Shares Cecilia Nyberg, event manager for the fair, “We have closely followed their work for many years and admire the breadth of their production within industrial design, furniture and architecture, as well as their goal of integrating the art of engineering into their processes. We are strongly convinced that their method of giving everyday objects new shapes and functionality will be an inspiration and much appreciated by all of our visitors.” The team has designed a lounge in Stockholmsmässan’s entrance hall.

This year’s theme for Stockholm Design Talks is “Scandinavia Now,” and will feature a lineup of moderators that includes Hanna Nova Beatrice, design author and editor in chief at Residence magazine; Mark Isitt, journalist and author; Guy Dittrich, author and commentator on hotels and design; and Marcus Fairs, chief editor of Dezeen Magazine. Notable guests and speakers include artist Neil Harbisson, color designer Judith van Vliet, architect duo Bolle Tham and Martin Videgård, Utopia Arkitekter CEO Emma Jonsteg, urban architect Karolina Keyzer, tapestry designer Hanna Wendelbo-Hansson, and architect Julien De Smedt.

February 10 and 11 are Architecture and Design Days, February 12 is Furniture and Light Dealers Day, and February 13 is General Admission Day.
