This fall, master craftsman Robert Kuo transforms his distinctive cloisonné, repoussé and lacquer designs into a 44-sku fabric collection for S. Harris. Following the same lines and textures found in his decorative objects, Kuo’s fabric collection also includes natural fibers, earthy colors, and a mixture of silks, chenilles and velvets.

Best known as an artist and creator of objects, Kuo’s work illustrates the modernization of traditional techniques and designs; blending influences and techniques from the Han and Ming dynasties with Art Deco and Art Nouveau. He draws inspiration from strong, powerful shapes, organic forms of nature and treasures from ancient China—inspirations and influences that continue into his first fabric collection.

“I wanted to translate and convey the tactile nature of my metal and lacquer work into fabrics,” says Robert. “We created designs that are easy-to-use and can blend into any décor, while incorporating traditional techniques to make the fabrics substantial and luxurious.”

“Robert brings inspiration from the ancient world that translates into exquisite and livable designs for the interiors,” said David Klaristenfeld, vice president of S. Harris.

Kuo’s designs can be seen around the world, from the National History Museum in Taipei to exclusive hotels: the Singapore Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco’s Hotel Palomar, Las Vegas MGM Grand Villas and New York Four Seasons.
