Design ADAC boasts impressive lineup of speakers and events

Windsor Smith, Aerin Lauder, Clinton Smith, Suzanne Tucker and Mary Ella Gabler are just a few of the names you can expect to hear from if you’re heading to Design ADAC April 28 – May 2 in Atlanta.

“The speakers will range from classic and timeless to edgy and modern and all are experts in their fields,” said Katie Belveal, ADAC General Manager. “Industry professionals and design enthusiasts alike will be able to walk away with the latest ideas from the world of design and a breadth of new contacts.”

Co-sponsored by Veranda magazine, Design ADAC will host keynote and panel discussions, networking events, new products and trends, as well as the annual Southeast Designer and Architect of the Year Awards

“As a former Atlantan, ADAC has a very special place in my heart and I am thrilled to be working with them again this spring for what promises to be a very compelling, fun and informative series of events,” said Clinton Smith, Editor-in-Chief of Veranda magazine. “Design ADAC is always one the year’s highlights and consistently draws the best talent from across the country. The stellar lineup they have planned for this season is no exception.”

2013 Behind the Windows display

During Design ADAC, the fourth installment of ‘Behind the Windows’ and ‘The Experience’ will be revealed to the public. The windows feature room vignettes created by top area designers paired with ADAC showrooms using the product available in the building. They will be on display for six months.

Close to 50 events will take place throughout the five-days. Below are a few of the keynote presentations and featured events.

Monday, April 28

11:00 a.m. Mary Ella Gabler, founder of Peacock Alley, will host a conversation in her showroom about her career and journey. She will also sign copies of her new book Uncommon Thread—a Woman, a Brand, a Legacy.  (Peacock Alley, ADAC West, Suite A6)

1:00 p.m. Chuck Chewning, creative director for Donghia and design director for Rubelli, will present the story of his restoration of the legendary Gritti Palace in Venice, Italy. Chewning will take attendees through his celebrated property while detailing the design process. (ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium. Reception at Donghia, Suite 317)

Tuesday, April 29

10:00 a.m. AD100 interior designer Suzanne Tucker will present a journey of her interiors and projects through illustrations from her latest book, Suzanne Tucker Interiors: The Romance of Design. A book signing and reception will follow the presentation. (ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium, Reception at Ainsworth-Noah, Suite 518)

1:00 p.m. Architect Bobby McApline and interior design partner Susan Ferrier will share their poetic approach to creating interiors based on their new book Art of the House: Reflections on Design. A book signing and reception will follow the discussion. (ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium. Reception at Holland & Company, Suite 238)

3:00 p.m. Attendees will learn the ins and outs of social media with moderator Liza Hausman of Houzz and a panel of top Atlanta interior designers including Joel Kelly of Joel Kelly Design, Musso and Jennifer Reynolds of Jennifer Reynolds Interiors. Learn how to market your design business, gain more clients and attract attention from the press using Houzz. (ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium. Reception at Robert Allen, Suite 401)

Wednesday, April 30

10:30 a.m. Clinton Smith will sit down with Aerin Lauder for a conversation about how storytelling can build an authentic brand, impact relationships with customers and help harness various forms of inspiration. A book signing for Lauder’s Beauty at Home, as well as a reception will follow.  (ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium. Reception at Lee Jofa, Suite 106)

2:00 p.m. Textile designer Victoria Larson and interior designers and textile bloggers Krista Nye and Tami Ramsay will come together to discuss “What’s New and What’s Next” in current textile trends. (Bradley showroom, Suite 133)

3:00 p.m. Interior designer Brian McCarthy will share how he scouts products and inspiration while traveling and will provide tips for collecting pieces that have real history, presence and impact. He will also discuss his latest book, Luminous Interiors, and will sign copies at the reception following the talk. (ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium. Reception at Grizzle & Mann, Suite 120)

Thursday, May 1

10:30 a.m. Clinton Smith will lead a Q&A with Los Angeles-based interior designer Windsor Smith. The pair will discuss the clients of tomorrow, including how to reach, market and with them in unexpected ways.  (ADAC Presentation Room, First Floor Atrium. Reception at Century, Suite 212)

1:00 p.m. Interior designer Eilieen Kathryn Boyd and VP of Marketing for Duralee, Robin Gordon, will discuss the development of Boyd’s fabric collection. Attendees will get a sneak peek at the collection before it hits the market in September. (Duralee showroom, Suite 125)

2:00 p.m. ADAC, Veranda and Jim Thompson will celebrate the 2014 finalists in the Southeast Designers & Architect of Year competition. The winners will be announced at a private ceremony later that evening. (Jim Thompson showroom, Suite 304)
