Two years ago, CTC&G (Connecticut Cottages & Gardens) renewed some of the interior public spaces at the Connecticut Governor's Residence with the People's Project. Now it is embarking on a similar initiative, Iconic Cottages & Gardens, which will support the restoration and preservation of iconic structures and gardens in Connecticut.

"Expanding this program will help revitalize Connecticut’s iconic homes and landmark buildings, and highlight the tremendous talent we have right here in Connecticut,” said Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy. “I thank the artists, designers, and suppliers who donate their time and expertise to restore local history.”

Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum

The first iconic structure to receive support from the magazine will be the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum—a Victorian-era mansion in Norwalk. CTC&G will assist where appropriate with funding and resources.

"I am brokenhearted to see any historic or important building in our state fall into disrepair or disappear," said Marianne Howatson, CEO and publication director, CTC&G. "CTC&G is so passionate about our community, we feel it is our duty to maintain the integrity of our iconic structures and gardens. These are our legacy for the next generation, and they must be protected."

CTC&G highlighted the need for support at its Innovation in Design Awards dinner last week in front of 350 architects, designers, builders and retailers from around Connecticut. The proceeds from the evening’s drawing were donated to the fund to help with the restoration of the Music Room.

Governor Malloy was in attendance to offer his support and speak about the partnership with CTC&G.
