What’s the inspiration behind the new collection?
The inspiration stems from our explorations of texture and tactility, as reflected in the collection’s name, which is derived from the Italian word for touch. To focus on the robust textures and patterns, the 25 fabrics are all rendered in the same shade of white, our popular Swan colorway.
What was the starting point for this collection?
The objective was to replicate the characteristics of natural wools, linens and boucles while integrating the high-performance features of solution-dyed acrylic. This innovative approach allowed for the creation of textiles that not only mimic the drape and hand of organic fabrics but also provide enhanced durability and functionality.
How does this collection push the brand forward?
The fabrics are designed to be perfect for both indoors and outdoors, expanding our portfolio beyond just exterior use. Our performance fabrics are offered on our own furniture and also sold by the yard.
How does the collection build on or complement your other offerings?
With the introduction of the 25 styles in the Toccare collection, we significantly expand our current offerings to a total of 130 Italian performance fabrics—an extension that enhances our ability to cater to diverse design preferences and demands, providing a more comprehensive range for our clients to select from.
What about the collection feels fresh and exciting?
Launching in an all-white colorway effectively showcases the inherent textures and elegance present in each fabric. The decision to debut with an all-white palette allows the fabrics to shine without any distractions.
Tell us about the materials in this collection. Are there certain materials used throughout, and/or a material that is a highlight on a particular piece?
Our performance fabrics are sourced from a small, third-generation, family-owned mill in Northern Italy and are 100 percent solution-dyed acrylic, resisting fading and wear from exposure to the elements. Known for its weaving traditions, the Northern Italian region is home to Europe’s purest low-mineral waters, which give our fabrics more softness without leaving behind any residue. Like all our collections, Toccare is made by artisans in the foothills of the Alps who share our passion for craftsmanship, sustainability, timeless design and performance.
How do you envision designers using this collection?
Designers can utilize Toccare to complement any of our furniture collections to make their outdoor spaces come to life. Cut yardage provides an additional option for high-traffic interior spaces that demand high performance, such as a kitchen or entryway.
Can the collection be customized? What kind of options are possible?
Our outdoor cushions and throw pillows are completely customizable, down to the trim and the stitching detail. Fabric cutting is optimized using the latest computer-navigated technology, but the meticulous sewing process, guided by expert hands, ensures bespoke trims, throw pillows and snap ties. Custom trim options, including sewn stripes, tape trim and button tufting, are available, offering elevated details with the same reliable performance as our furniture cushions.
