What’s the inspiration behind the new collection?
Our inspiration was to bring the same level of intentionality and space optimization that Resource Furniture is renowned for with our wall beds to all other areas of the home. We wanted to create a collection of customizable staple pieces that incorporate all the functions necessary in a home (lounging, storage, dining, working and sleeping), allowing clients to maximize space and adapt their living environments throughout the day. The collection draws inspiration from both the beautiful simplicity of modular design and the urban landscapes that inspire our everyday lives. It exudes elegant multifunctionality that stands the test of time.
What was the starting point for this collection?
Our primary focus at the outset was harmony and flexibility. We wanted pieces that work together to create a holistically designed home and maintain a cohesive elegance.
What piece are you most excited to unveil?
We are most excited about our Entryway collection, as it makes for endless storage possibilities. Its highly customizable interiors can be designed to house a variety of items—coats, shoes (with optional air purifier), handbags, even wine!—all while hiding behind a discreet facade. The Entryway collection creates an inviting and coordinated entryway that’s tailor-made to your unique tastes and spatial needs.
How do you feel this collection pushes the brand forward?
This collection is a significant step forward for Resource Furniture, as it expands our focus beyond the wall beds and transforming tables for which we are best known. While our wall beds are synonymous with flexibility and multifunctionality in the bedroom and guest rooms, this new collection extends that ethos to other areas of the home. It underscores our dedication to providing high-quality, Italian-made furniture that adapts to the dynamic needs of the modern household. By offering fully customizable, modular and space-saving solutions, we are taking Resource Furniture to the forefront of innovative interior design.
How does the collection build on or complement your other offerings?
This collection builds on our existing range of transforming and multipurpose furniture by extending the same principles of space-saving innovation, Italian craftsmanship and multifunctionality to all areas of the home. While our wall beds have been a staple for optimizing sleeping spaces, this new collection takes that approach and applies it to entryways, living rooms and other communal spaces. For instance, the Kintai sofa has an array of modular shapes that fit together in various seating arrangements; the Maxi desk enables one’s home office to disappear in time for cocktail hour; and the Dynamic Plus offers ample surface area as a coffee table, desk or dining table. These pieces are a natural extension of our commitment to reimagining the possibilities of space and maximizing every corner of the home.
What about the collection feels fresh and exciting?
The use of layered, monochromatic textures brings dimension and cohesion to this collection. Clients can play with coordinating fabrics, materials and textures that are all designed to work seamlessly together on all furniture items and surfaces throughout the room.
Tell us about the materials in this collection. Are there certain materials used throughout, and/or a material that is a highlight on a particular piece?
The Skyline and Kintai seating collections were presented at 2023’s Salone del Mobile in a variety of textures and materials: menswear-inspired knits, velvets, nabuk (nubuck) and cuoio (saddle) leather, and linens, but all in monochromatic tones that add a calm sophistication to the look. Various elements can be specified in the exact same materials, bringing a sense of visual cohesion to a space. For instance, the same collection of leathers, nabuks, wood veneers and lacquers is available for the Dynamic Plus table, Maxi desk and Entryway collection.
How do you envision designers using this collection?
This collection is versatile enough for small or large spaces alike; its strength lies in its flexibility of dimensions and uses. The Kintai and Skyline sofas feature a variety of seating elements, shapes and sizes that can be reimagined in endless ways, whether you’re rearranging your living room for a party or moving to a new home. The Maxi desk and Dynamic Plus are innovative home office solutions that allow your living room to seamlessly transform into a workspace. These are essential solutions for anyone who works on a remote or hybrid basis.
Can the collection be customized? What kind of options are possible?
All of the products in this collection are highly customizable and available in an array of fabrics and finishes. The Entryway collection and Maxi desk are made to measure and can be specified in color-matched lacquers and wood stains for the perfect complement to custom millwork. The Kintai and Skyline sofas can be specified in many shapes and sizes, and their dimensions can be even further customized for special projects.
