Mystique is inspired by nature’s intricate tapestry, including the interplay of light and shadow, as well as the rich, subtly shimmering undertones of natural hues. Our aim was to create a new, truly unique yet aesthetically timeless Dedon fiber that makes a strong sensory impression.

What was the starting point for Mystique?
Its origin can be traced back to the original Dedon fiber, which was developed more than 30 years ago. Pleasing to the touch and resilient against the elements, Dedon fiber started a revolution in outdoor living that persists to this day. Since its inception, we have continuously reinvented our fiber, whether through new colors, shapes or textures. Mystique was born from the ambition to fuse the intricate aesthetics of nature with cutting-edge technology, resulting in a high-performance outdoor fiber that enhances both classic and contemporary Dedon furnishings. Inspiration came from the natural interplay of light and shadow on textured surfaces. Mystique features a novel technique that intertwines two distinctly different colors within a single fiber strand, coupled with a textured surface, to produce a 3D effect. The dynamic surfaces that result alter their appearance depending on the viewer’s perspective. With Mystique, we have reimagined the boundaries of what is achievable in fiber design and technology.

Where does Mystique appear in Dedon’s portfolio of products?
The fiber was conceived and developed by Dedon Studio, our in-house innovation lab based at our headquarters in northern Germany. To start, Mystique is featured in our classic Orbit and Lounge series, infusing both with newfound elegance while highlighting their timelessness—a characteristic of every Dedon collection—and expanding their possible configurations.

Dedon fiber is delightful to the touch and, most important, durable against the elements. Produced at our state-of-the-art facilities in northern Germany, it takes numerous profiles and textures, each innovated by fiber specialists and designers working in close collaboration. Their creations are then sent to our zero-waste facilities on Cebu Island, Philippines, where master artisans weave them by hand into our award-winning collections. Though Dedon fiber finds expression in many forms and colors, it is unmistakable for its quality, beauty, refinement and hardiness. Mystique comes with all these characteristics plus its incredible dimensional appearance.

How do you envision designers using Mystique fiber?
Depending on the colorway, Mystique can complement different aesthetics. More vivid color combinations make for true statement pieces, as seen in our Orbit daybed or modular Lounge collection in Mystique Bluo. Inspired by the enchanting hues of twilight, Mystique Dusk embodies a subtle yet striking blend of tones that transition seamlessly between light and shadow. Its mesmerizing 3D effect augments the timeless elegance of our modular lounging collection Mu, conceived by Toan Nguyen.
