BOH caught up with Steve Sorrow, director of product development at Jaipur Living, to discuss the inspiration behind the brand’s latest rug collection, which captures an authentic vintage look while offering a new rug’s standard and custom size options.
What’s the inspiration behind the new collection?
Authentic antique rugs, while sought-after, can be limiting because they’re only available in one size. That was the inspiration for Someplace in Time, a groundbreaking, 100-percent Afghan wool, hand-knotted collection that looks and feels like an authentic vintage rug—while offering all the standard and custom size options of a new rug.
What piece are you most excited to unveil?
We’re very excited to introduce Simply Put—seven handwoven rug collections that embody the trend toward relaxed luxury and an understated, attainable style. These collections feature modern solids, subtle textures and artful colors that incorporate a minimal design approach. The rugs are great for layering and easy to decorate with, making design decisions simple.
What about the collection feels fresh and exciting?
For the Someplace in Time line, it’s the nostalgia found in designs inspired by antique Bidjar rugs combined with the progress of a unique construction method. Again, unlike vintage rugs, they come in a range of sizes, from swatches to 10-by-14 and even custom sizes, for a perfect fit. Also, they come in a great variety of colors, from vintage fades to updated and subtle pops of color.
