What to see and do at Spring High Point Market

It’s T minus nine days to High Point Market (opening day is April 17), and this season’s list of introductions will not disappoint. Headliners include new lines of furniture by Kelly Wearstler, Thomas O’Brien, Alexa Hampton, Tobi Fairley, and Nina Campbell, among others.

Editor at Large has put together its semi-annual Designer’s Guide to High Point Market, featuring all of the events that designers need to know about at High Point. Below is a small sampling of what’s inside.

Southern Living’s Zoe Gowen will sit down with designers Barry Dixon, Meg Braff, Angie Hranowsky and Paige Sumblin Schnell to explore the meaning of “gracious design” as part of the Southern Living Presents a Gracious Panel program opening day. The breakfast buffet will open at 8 a.m. and the panel begins at 9 a.m. on April 18; RSVP by email (High Point Theatre, Transportation Terminal, 210 E Commerce Ave).

The Junior League of High Point Designer Showhouse, sponsored by Traditional Home, will open to the public on Saturday, April 18, at 11 a.m. at the Randall B. Terry Estate (200 W Farriss Ave.).

Thom Filicia will present his new artwork with Soicher Marin on April 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Soicher Marin showroom (201 W Commerce Ave., Suite 1B&1C). In addition, he will introduce his latest collection with Vanguard Furniture, and new top-of-bed sets and pillows through Eastern Accents.

Barclay Butera will debut the Hancock Park collection with Highland House. Butera and Highland House president Nathan Copeland will host a reception on Saturday, April 18 at 2 p.m. RSVP required (Highland House, Historic Market Square, 305 W High Ave., Showroom 142).

Arteriors will host Windsor Smith for a signing of her new book, Homefront on Saturday, April 18 at 2 p.m. at the Arteriors showroom (IHFC, 210 E Commerce Ave., Hamilton Wing, Suite 320). She will also participate in a discussion with Veranda Editor in Chief Clinton Smith on creating practical rooms, titled Rooms that Do More for Today’s Rising Demands of Space. This will take place on Saturday, April 18 at 10:30 a.m. at the Suites at Market Square (200 W Commerce Ave.).

The Antique & Design Center will host a daily happy hour with live music from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the ground floor and mezzanine levels (305 W High Ave.).

DwellStudio will premiere a new furniture collection with Magnussen, and a new upholstery collection created in collaboration with Christiane Lemieux and Comfort Design. DwellStudio and Lemieux will be hosting cocktail receptions on Friday, April 17 (DwellStudio, 101 N Hamilton St.), and Saturday, April 18 (IHFC, 210 E Commerce Ave., Space 810M), from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Alexa Hampton will launch her 10th anniversary collection with Hickory Chair, as well as a new accessories line with Maitland-Smith.

Kravet has been working on a “secret project” to be debuted at High Point Market, and will throw a party to celebrate. To learn about this very special launch, as well as new furniture collections, stop by the showroom from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday April 18, RSVP required (Market Square, 305 W High St, Suite 217).

Thomas O’Brien's new 125-piece collection with Century Furniture features a mix of modern and traditional pieces of upholstery, cabinetry, casework and other accessory furniture with a vintage modern focus. The collection will be on view during the Century Furniture Market Party on April 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Century Furniture showroom (305 W High St, Fifth Floor).

Kelly Wearstler will launch her collection with EJ Victor at a cocktail party that will also commemorate the company’s 25th anniversary. The party will take place on April 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the EJ Victor Showroom (116 S Lindsay Street).

Tobi Fairley will debut a new line of upholstery pieces with CR Laine, which will be on view at CR Laine’s Hamilton Street showroom (310 N Hamilton Ct., Second Floor). Additionally, she will launch a 70-piece art collection with Soicher Marin (201 W Commerce Ave., Suites 1B and 1C).

UK-based designer Nina Campbell has created a capsule collection for American furniture company oomph. The collection includes three parsons-style tables, a writing desk and a pair of stacking side tables finished in high-gloss lacquer colors, and will be on view at the oomph showroom. (305 W High St., Suite 200).

Domino magazine’s Editor in Chief Robert Leleux will present Rising Design Stars: The Hot List of New Talent and Trends, a panel with the next generation of top interior designers on Sunday, April 19 at 2:30 p.m. Panelists Benjamin Vandiver, Young Huh, Dolores Suarez and Caroline Grant will discuss their experiences, distinct styles and what it takes to establish oneself in the modern media landscape (200 W Commerce Ave.).

Thom Filicia will “get in bed” with market attendees while showing off his latest bedding collecting for Eastern Accents Sunday, April 19 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Customers can take a picture with Filicia and have it immediately post to social media or email the photo to themselves (200 W Commerce Ave, G-1000).

Currey & Company will host blogger, author and artist Lisa Borgnes Giramonti for a signing of her new book, Novel Interiors, on Sunday, April 19 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Signed copies of the book will also be available for purchase in the showroom (Currey & Company, IHFC, 210 E Commerce Ave., M110 on Main st., Street Level).

House Beautiful editor Orli Ben-Dor will sit down with designer Nina Campbell for “Inside the Design Studio,” a discussion ranging from Campbell’s new line with oomph furniture to her design process and inspirations. The event will take place on Sunday, April 19 at 4 p.m. (Suites at Market Square, 200 W Commerce Ave, Seminar Room).
