Marlene Liriano, managing director of Interior Architects’ Miami office, has been named IIDA president for the 2016 to 2017 term. Liriano will focus on developing opportunities for students and emerging designers and increasing growth in Latin America.

“It’s an honor and privilege to serve as the 2016 to 2017 IIDA board of directors president,” shares Liriano. “IIDA has been instrumental in my career and connection to the profession. For years, I have looked to the Association as an entity that truly represents commercial interior design. It also provides an international platform for those individuals that are willing to dedicate their time to pushing the profession forward, providing valuable research and insight to our clients, and allowing students to learn more about the interior design profession.”

Tom Powers, an IA executive director, says “Marlene is a tremendous leader, and her talent and expertise in our field is unprecedented. I am confident that she will serve IIDA with the same dedication and passion that is her hallmark at IA; and that designers around the world will come to know her as we do, a true leader in the design profession.”

IIDA’s executive vice president and CEO, Cheryl S. Durst, concurs: “Under Marlene’s leadership, the international board of directors brings together a group of design leaders who collectively have decades of experience and a deep understanding of the vision and mission of IIDA. They are all wonderful additions to our international board, and we look forward to their contributions.”
