Houston designers to be honored at Spring Market

The Decorative Center Houston (DCH) will open its doors May 1 to local and national design talent for its annual Spring Market—a day of panel discussions, book signings, product debuts, and networking events throughout the showrooms. The day will culminate with the Stars of Design ceremony, which honors some of the brightest talents in the Houston area.

This year’s honorees include Pamela Pierce, Lifetime Achievement; Ginger Barber, Interior Design; Dillon Kyle, Architecture; Howard Sherman, Art; Lana Rigsby & Thomas Hull, Graphic Design; Elaine Turner, Product Design; Gregory/Henry Landscape Design & Installation, Landscape Design; Karen Sachar, Photography.

The Stars on the Rise are as follows: Houston-based interior designers Catherine Brooks Giuffre, founder of CBG Interiors Ltd; Kelly Cusimano, founder of Cusimano Architect; Ben Johnston, co-founder Avondale Design Studio; and Julie McGarr of McGarr Design & Interiors.

Charles S. Cohen, President/CEO of the DCH, will present the honors during a public ceremony on the Ground Floor Gallery at 5:30 p.m.

The rest of the day’s events are as follows:

To kick off Market at 9:30 a.m., Robert Allen (Suite 141) will host a discussion with Liz Hausman of Houzz, along with top Houston interior designers Marie Flanigan, Lori Toups and Laura Umansky. The panelists will discuss how to use Houzz to market a design business, gain more clients and attract attention from the press.

Timothy Corrigan

The keynote panel discussion will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the Ground Floor Gallery, where Hide Furniture impresario Kyle Bunting, Los Angeles-based designer Timothy Corrigan, Houston-based designer Nina Magon and Interiors Editorial Director Michael Wollaeger will discuss what comfort and elegance means today and how designers can achieve both for their clients.

11:30 a.m.

Immediately following the keynote presentation, Schumacher and Patterson, Flynn, Martin (Suite 4017) will host Timothy Corrigan for a reception to celebrate the launch of his debut collection of fabrics, furnishings and rugs. Corrigan will also be signing copies of his book, An Invitation to Château du Grand-Lucé.

David Sutherland (Suite 170) will host Kyle Bunting for a special reception and guests will get a first-hand look at his extensive collection.

1:00 p.m.

Joyce Romanoff

Joyce Romanoff will be in the Donghia showroom (Suite 1000) to present Multifarious: Maya Romanoff’s Grand Canvas—the biography of a man and an idea.

2:00 p.m.

Stark (Suite 1010) will welcome interior designer Gary McBournie, who will sign copies of his book, Living Color. Known for creating colorful twists on traditional interiors in his seemingly endless color palette, McBournie writes about his childhood as a curious and creative boy with penchants for painting and the well-designed home, as well as his career as a prolific designer working his magic on projects in New York, Nantucket, Palm Beach, California and the UK.

3:00 p.m.

Hokanson (Suite 190) will host a cocktail party with a preview of the Shadow Collection—a silk and wool shadow themed collection created by the artisans of Hokanson.

Pamela O'Brien

Pamela O’Brien of Pamela Hope Designs will lead a discussion on “Designing for the Sexes: Spring Blossoms” in the Andrew Martin showroom. O’Brien will share the endless possibilities and challenges that arise when combining “his, hers and ours” into one cohesive design.

4:00 p.m.

Eggersmann Kitchens | Home Living (Suite 250) will host a design trends discussion with multi-award winning designer and contestant on NBC’s “American Dream Builders” Nina Magon.

6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

In Suite 107, the DCH will present Altered Egos, a retrospective exhibition of more than 100 works by acclaimed Los Angeles-born portrait author and photojournalist Nancy Ellison.

Throughout the day, the following showrooms will be hosting open houses:

9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Cabinet Innovations (Suite 219); Duralee/Highland Court (Suite 132); Fabricut showroom (Suite 3022); Sherle Wagner Showroom (Suite 1014).

11:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. John Brooks (Suite 2001)
