This season, a handful of designers have teamed up with manufacturers to create new or expanded collections of fabrics, furniture and accessories—several of which will debut this week at the fall High Point Market.

Bunny Williams has collaborated with Century Furniture to produce a range of outdoor pieces including a mixture of occasional, dining and accent furniture for outdoor spaces in a range of mediums from teak with faux zinc accents to woven upholstered pieces. It also includes a functional bar cart, garden bench and a planter. The products launched at both the Chicago Casual Market and the New York Design Center’s What’s New What’s Next last month, and will be on display at High Point as well.

“Furniture enhances the room-like quality of an outdoor space, just as it transforms empty rooms indoors,” said Williams. “What really ties the collection together is the quality of craftsmanship and durability of materials.Living in New England, I have learned the value of sturdiness in garden furniture. Teak and metal will age well, developing a wonderful patina over time and the synthetic rattan is hassle-free," said Williams.

Piana's rug designs

Celebrated for his paintings, sculptures, drawings and photographs, abstract artist Joseph La Piana’s work draws on the relationship between light and kinetic energy. His newest endeavor, a collection of handmade wool and silk rugs for Patterson, Flynn & Martin, La Piana, drew inspiration from landscapes near and far, from Amagansett and Central Park to St. Barths and St. Tropez. The collection is now available in Patterson, Flynn & Martin showrooms.

A teaser view of four prototypes for the Amanda Nibset collaboration with Niermann Weeks was shown at What’s New, What’s Next last month. The full collection, coming out in spring 2014, will include 12 to 16 pieces of lighting, tables, seating and mirrors.

Nisbet's designs at the preview

“We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Amanda on this new collection,” said Eleanor Niermann, vice president of merchandising & design for Niermann Weeks. “We’ve had a long time association, and it’s very exciting to be joining forces with one new voice. The new designs will have new and interesting combinations of finishes, textures, and materials.”

Nisbet

"I have admired and frequently use Niermann Weeks throughout my career,” said Nisbet. “When the opportunity arose to collaborate on a line with NW I was thrilled. Their range of capabilities and finishes is vast. Visiting their Maryland workroom and seeing the attention to craftsmanship was truly inspiring. I am so looking forward to everyone seeing all of our products very soon."

Studio Four NYC has also teamed up with Nisbet as well as designers Katie Ridder, Tilton Fenwick and Carrier and Company to launch its first rug collection. The Studio Four NYC rug collections debuted last week and are available in the Manhattan showroom.

“We asked each designer to come up with images and inspiration and they worked with our artist to translate the images into rug designs,” said Stacy Waggoner, co-founder of Studio Four NYC. “We have really enjoyed working with these designers on their own custom projects and we thought this would be a great place to start building a collection of Studio Four rugs.”

Tilton Fenwick rug designs

“Our decorating style, well reflected in our rug design, is best described as a fearless mix of colors and pattern layered on pattern,” said Susyel dePedro Cunningham and Anne Maxwell Foster. “Our rugs, inspired by antique Eastern European textiles, begin with a traditional ikat pattern and layers a second graphic pattern on top: a floral in ‘Fenwick Floral’ and a starburst motif in ‘Estrella.’ Both rugs can be custom colored, but we love them best in bold and unexpected combinations as they are being offered now in our first capsule collection at Studio Four."

Carrier and Company rug designs

Jesse Carrier and Mara Miller of Carrier and Company were inspired by antique Japanese textiles. The Water Lilies design is made in a durable wool flat weave and Stepping Stones is a hand knotted Tibetan quality in washed banana silk and wool.

Ridder's rug designs

Ridder’s rug design called Ridder Diamond was inspired by a needlepoint pillow she had seen in a book. She also created Gigi, named after her youngest daughter who came up with the design using an art app on her iPad.

Nisbet's rug designs

Nisbet has created Amped Up and Capri, both modern, abstract art woven in an old world, wool flat weave.

Filicia with his collection

Eastern Accents is set to introduce its new partnership with interior designer Thom Filicia, which includes 60 decorative pillows that feature contemporary patterns and textures paired with a bright and sophisticated palette. The collection, debuting at High Point, will also include four throws.

Capel Rugs has joined forces with Susan Hable Smith and Katharine Hable Sweeney, principals of Hable Construction, to create a line of  area rugs featuring “whimsical” and “lighthearted” graphics. The initial rollout during High Point Market includes several wool loop-hook constructions and three complementary braided collections as well as a kids-oriented line called Hableland. Additional styles in a more sophisticated color palette, as well as other constructions, and will be unveiled at the spring High Point Market.

Sweeney and Smith

“We are excited to partner with Capel on this new line because, like us, they are a family owned and operated company that makes products here in the United States,” said Smith. “We strive to work with American companies that manufacture the best products in places with the top skill sets and Capel fits in with that mission.”
