Fall Market at the DDB explores Design Across Disciplines

This season, the Decoration and Design Building (DDB) will bring together experts in various fields of design to highlight the culmination of pure design—and how it relates to the home.

From keynote presentations to open houses, lectures, panels, book signings, and a plethora of showroom programs, Fall Market offers two jam-packed days of events that will draw hundreds of designers and editors from the tri-state area and beyond.

Here’s what you can expect and you shouldn’t miss:

Keynote Panelists

On Wednesday, October 10, Elle Décor’s Editor-in-Chief Michael Boodro kicks off the day with a discussion about luxury and what really counts in design at the Astra Café on the 14th Floor, at 10:00 a.m. Following his talk, Kravet will host a brunch reception in Suite 324.

At 11:00 a.m. in the Schumacher Showroom, Suite 832, celebrate designer Celerie Kemble’s new wallcoverings collection. Then, head to the John Rosselli Showroom, Suite 1800, at 12:00 where Bunny Williams will host a lunch to announce the arrival of BeeLine Home to the DDB.

At 1:30 p.m. stop by the Donghia Showroom on the 7th Floor for a panel discussion with Donghia's Creative Director Chuck Chewning, John Turner of Benjamin Moore and designer Amanda Nisbet about the role of color in design.

Vaughn Showroom

The second keynote of the day will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Astra Café on the 14th Floor, with a discussion between Editor-in-Chief of Traditional Home Anne Maine, Cathy Whitlock author of Designs on Film and Cinema Style blog, Lydia Marks partner of Marks & Frantz Interior Design Set Decorator and Marshall Watson of Marshall Watson Interiors. The panel will discuss the differences in design from the set to the living room, with an interior designer and a set designer perspective. Following the talk, the Lewis Mittman Showroom, Suite 903, will host a reception.

At 4:00 in the J. Robert Scott Showroom, Suite 220, company founder and designer Sally Sirkin Lewis and Michael Wollaeger Editorial Director of Interiors Magazine, will discuss the evolution of the brand and celebrate its 40th anniversary. Then stop by the Lee Jofa Showroom, Suite 234, at 4:30 to check out the brand’s new line of upholstery.

Potterton Books

End the day with some light bites, a glass of wine, and a few book signings, at 5:00 in the Holland & Sherry Showroom, Suite 1402. Meet Juan Montoya for the launch of his new book La Formentera, and meet Geoffrey Bradfield in the JAB Showroom, Suite 102, to check out his new book A 21st Century Place.

If that isn’t enough, Fall Market continues on Thursday, October 11 with the opening keynote from New York Magazine’s Design Editor, Wendy Goodman at 10:00 a.m. in the Astra Café on the 14th floor. A reception will follow in the Armani/Casa Showroom, Suite 1424. 

Following the presentation is another day full of showroom programs and events you won’t want to miss.

At 11:00 a.m. in the Classic Rug Collection Showroom, Suite 1805, join Stacy Garcia, founder of Stacy Garcia Inc. for a talk about upcoming design trends. Then at 12:30 p.m. Arnitex will toast the opening of their new showroom in Suite 538.

Crestron Showroom

At 1:00 p.m. head to the Crestron Showroom, Suite 407, and learn “how to change a lightbulb” with CL Sterling & Son. Then at 1:30 p.m. the Rose Tarlow | Melrose House Showroom, Suite 1616, will host a discussion about budgeting in design.

At 2:00 p.m. in the Lorin Marsh Showroom, Suite 720, join designers who are participating in this year’s Holiday House Showhouse for a discussion.

Astra Cafe

The second keynote of the day will take place in the Astra Café on the 14th floor with Editorial Director of Cottages & Gardens Publications DJ Carey, Richard Lambertson and Miles Redd Vice President and Design Director of Tiffany and Co. and designer Danielle Rollins. The reception to follow will be held in the Anichini Showroom, Suite 923.

And to finish off the day meet legendary design icon Iris Apfel at the Stark Showroom, Suite 1002, at 4:30 p.m.
