L.A. designers to furnish 20 rooms at local women's shelter

Twenty Los Angeles-based interior designers have been recruited to design and furnish 20 rooms at the Good Shepherd Center, a center for homeless women and children, as part of the Good Shepherd Charity Design Project. The units will serve as temporary housing to help women of all ages get back on their feet. 

Participating designers include: Ames Ingham, Erin Klodginski, Hillary Thomas, Jessica Pakzad Bennett, Julie Thigpen, Kelly Edwards, Kirsten Hanson-Press, Laura Clayton Baker, Lisa Harper, Mary Mc Donald, Michele Alexandra Kay, Michelle Workman, Mollie Ranize, Nadia Geller, Sasha Emerson, Susie Ho, Tamara Kaye Honey, Typhanie Peterson and Vanessa De Vargas.

Organizers Vanessa De Vargas, an interior designer, and Vanessa Kogevinas, and editor and consultant, are asking for contributions for the pro bono project, which may include furniture, gift cards (Pier 1, Target, etc,) or small cash donations of $20-$50. Furniture may include desks, dressers, twin Headboards, desk chairs, bed side tables, table lamps, sheet sets, blanket or duvet (twin size, duvet insert, decorative pillows and inserts, drapes and hardware, hooks like coat racks, shelving (Ikea floating etc.), frames (artwork or extra molding), artwork or wall art, large coffee table books or vintage books, wallpaper rolls (or even small remnants that can be framed), paint and paint supplies tarps brushes pans etc. Breakable items and electronics will not be accepted. Designers may send low res pictures and the measurements to turquoise.la@gmail.com.

De Vargas organized a similar project in 2010 with the Upward Bound House where 17 designers transformed a former budget motel into a homeless shelter providing emergency housing and service for homeless children and parents.
