Home and garden design sites Remodelista and Gardenista have been acquired by Realtor.com. The real estate site counts 50 million-plus unique visitors each month and will contribute scale and reach to the design sites, the company stated in an internal email obtained by EAL.

Both Remodelista and Gardenista will operate as separate entities, with their current editorial team, but the sites’ backend will be consolidated with Realtor.com’s, providing new technology resources. Realtor.com’s visitors are interested in hiring architects and designers and in home renovations and landscaping, noted the email, and the acquisition will also help connect Remodelista and Gardenista’s professional directory with clients.

Remodelista was first launched in 2007 by Julie Carlson and defines its editorial team as “a group of friends who share eerily similar design sensibilities; a collective design DNA. We care (OK, we care a lot) about interiors. We wake up in the middle of the night to bid on Thonet dining chairs; we page through stacks of design magazines every month.” As EAL has reported, Remodelista was acquired by SAY Media in 2011, and in 2012, SAY Media launched Gardenista with former New York Times columnist Michelle Slatalla as editor. In 2015, SAY Media sold the two sites back to Carlson and publisher Josh Groves.
